Window Cleaners in London

Choosing the right window cleaner can be an important choice if you are responsible for a tall or prestigious building. Even if you are looking for a local window cleaner for a small residential building the last thing you want is someone incompetent falling of a ladder and damaging your property.

One of the most obvious, but very important key issues is insurance. Once you have found a professional company that offers you the services you require it is crucial you look into their insurance policy. Believe it or not many window cleaning companies and sole traders will not be covered for the surface being worked on, simply because not many insurance companies offer this type of cover. So it is important to find someone who has the correct insurance in the case of a window being smashed or damaged.

Another factor to consider when choosing the right window cleaner is their health and safety policies. Are they using safe equipment? Do they use health and safety cones for trailing hoses? Do they wear high visibility cloak jackets when required? These simple factors are important because it is not just the window cleaner’s responsibility to ensure the property being worked on is cleaned safely, it is also you the property owner who is responsible. If something happens to the window cleaner or a member of the public the property owner is responsible for the accident as well since it is their premises and they have to make sure they are happy with how the work is being carried out. This is why if you have commercial premises or if you are responsible for a large building you should always ask for method statements and risk assessments to be done before the work is carried out. This should never come at an extra cost and as piece of mind it covers your back too.

Another factor to consider when choosing a window cleaner is, do you want someone who will be cleaning your window with a traditional method (with a squeegee) or with the reach and wash method? The reach and wash method is used a lot on commercial premises, it involves using a tall telescopic pole which can sometimes reach up to 72ft with a brush at the end. Purified water is pumped up through the pole to the brush and the cleaning process can begin. One of the most popular reasons to use the reach and wash system is because there are less health and safety issues; for example the windows cleaner falling of a ladder. But that does not mean to say there is not any health and safety issues at all with the reach and wash. (One should make sure the area being worked on is closed of in case the telescopic pole falls, especially when extended to great heights). The quality of the result will usually be good from both methods, but if you have powder coated frames, it is difficult to get a better result than the traditional method because the powder/paint from the frames can leave misty streak on the windows, the reach and wash method should be avoided on this type of window.
